HPROA MOTORCYLE RIDERS
Tuesday, March 9, 2010
ATTENTION HPROA MEMBERS WHO RIDE MOTORCYCLES REGARDING
WARRIORS WEEKEND
On May 21st, between 100-125 wounded and recovering Marines and Soldiers will be greeted at IAH by an assortment of patriots, including members of the HPROA. The warriors will be in route to www.warriorsweekend.org. They will be escorted from IAH and through Houston by law enforcement agencies from the Houston area and a host of assorted motorcycles riders. Along the 190 mile route other law enforcement agencies will join in to give their support with the escort. The coordinators of the motorcycle ride have ask to get a head count on retired officers who will be making this ride because we have been invited to ride towards the very front of this procession. They have a flier/link for this ride at http://WWProcession.ridingthewind.com which is a must read if you intend on riding. Rather then respond to the mailbox if you will email me directly at rashwood@centurytel.net I will try and keep a head count and keep you up to speed as to the updates. See you all on May 21st.

Identity Theft Warning
Sunday, March 7, 2010
To all Retired Officers (and Dependents): All of you have no doubt received the COH Dependent Eligibility Verification Statement in the mail whereby the COH is asking for your input to confirm any existing dependents on your medical plan and to verify their personal information. This information on the form includes NAMES, BIRTHDATES, SOCIAL SECURITY NUMBERS, ETC. and I for one find it very reckless that this information is being sent out in regular mail and in this manner. As a two-time victim of Identity Theft, you should be outraged that the City is doing this. Trust me, there are other avenues available to solicit information from us to include logging onto secure websites, etc. If social security numbers had to be listed on their forms, then why not list only the LAST 4 DIGITS of the number? BEWARE THIS DRUG LEVAQUIN
Saturday, February 27, 2010
Back in October, 2009, I had to go to a doctor because of a cat bite, causing infection in my arm..My regular doctor was not available, so I saw another Doctor which we have used in the past..After examining me he said he would give me a shot, and an antibotic.. The antibotic turned out to be Levaquin..After 2 pills, my feet began to feel funny. After 2 more, My heels on both feet hurt so bad I couldn't hardly walk..I went and saw my regular doctor and he stated my feet problems were caused by the Levaquin... Their warning on the drug, says that anyone over the age of 60,can have it go to the feet, and any tendons in the body..Also, not to be given to anyone on steroids, of which I've been on for over 6 months. the orthopedic doctor says I have a ruptured Achilles heel tendon in my left heel, and damage to the heel tendon in my right foot...Damage is permanent.. So, if you or anyone you know is asked to take this medicine, DO NOT TAKE IT !!! Ask for something else..Surgery is out of the question for me due to my COPD... BEWARE THIS DRUG LEVAQUIN

Proud To Have Been a Member
Wednesday, January 20, 2010
Anyone who attended Sgt. Benny Jordy's funeral Sunday could not help but feel the pride(and sometimes sorrow) that comes with the fellowship of the police family. The dignity of the Honor Guard, the young officer who sounded Taps, the bagpipe accompanying the hearse, the family assistance committee, the tears in the eyes of the dozens of old retired officers, all spoke to what it means to be an officer. I am proud to have been a member of this band of brothers and sisters.

Free German Shepherd Dog
Tuesday, December 22, 2009
I have a registered German Shepherd that I am willing to give a retired police officer. This dog is a beautiful red and black 1 year old female German Shepherd with an excellent pedigree. The reason I am writing to your association is because I rescued this dog about 6 months ago. She has been through 4 owners in her young life because no one has bothered to teach her basic obedience. She has a very sweet temperament and loves to play. We live on a ranch and thought we would be able to handle her and teach her some manners. However, she has very strong instincts and wants to chase the cattle. We have not been able to break her from this habit. We firmly believe that with the right training, this dog could be an asset to someone. We are way out of our league with her behavior problems, but want to find someone that has a good knowledge of German Shepherds to give her a good home. If you are interested, please call 281-639-3576 for more information. mailto:debra_jobes@yahoo.com
