RETIRED OFFICERS ASSISTANCE COMMITTEE

JULY 10, 2010

Robert E. (B0b) Sieckmann - 5-12-10) (e-mail as received from Bob)
Just to let you know, I finished my chemo and radiation treatments Wednesday and will now wait 6 weeks to go back and have test run to see if they got it all and there are no other "hot spots".  So far everything looks good.

Joe Oatis - (6-16-10 - Nelson) Tammy Oatis reports this morning that Joe was in M.D. Anderson as scheduled on Tuesday where he was recovering from 12 hours of surgery.  They have had him out of bed, he does have a trach but they felt he was breathing on his own.  He is alert and tries to communicate using his hand and head movements. Joe had extensive oral surgery and there were grafts to his tongue.  His physicians state that there will be extensive swelling and discomfort for several days.  Please lift up your prayers for Joe today and the days to come that he would heal and recover quickly.  UPDATE - 5-21-10 (Nelson)  We visited with Tammy Oatis this afternoon and she reports that Joe is recovering remarkable well at M.D. Anderson from his recent oral surgery.  He is speaking quite well but has some frustration getting some words out.  He still has his trach in but that may come out tomorrow and the good news is that Joe may be released to go home also tomorrow.  Tammy feels that the hospital room is just too confining and that getting home will really  help Joe heal and recover quicker.  We will continue to pray for his physicians and for Joe as he mends and as he struggles through his recovery.

Nancy Ramsey - (6-16-10 - Nelson):  Daughter of Ruth Massey was admitted to Houston Northwest Medical Center, 710 FM 1960 on Monday for removal of a ruptured appendix. Nancy will be in the hospital for a few more days. Remember Nancy in your prayers that she would recover and be released from the hospital soon

James R. (Jim) Goudy - (6-17-2010) - (Delvin Dendrick - FAC) Received telephone call from Chuck Leonard advising that Jim Goudy had heart surgery this past Monday and is in the Coronary Intensive Care Unit at St. Luke's Hospital. I called and talked with Jim's wife, Denise. She said Jim had a triple by-pass, valve repair, and other corrective measures. He was in surgery for 10 hours. She said he is doing well after the surgery. She said they will be installing a pacemaker but is not sure when that will be done. She requested there be NO VISITORS as long as he is in Intensive Care.

Please remember to keep Jim and Denise in your prayers.  UPDATE (6-21-2010) -Delvin Kendrick) - Jim is out of Intensive Care and is now in Room 1142 at St. Luke's Hospital. He said they are telling him he is progressing quite well considering the extent of the surgery. He said he would prefer to not have any visits until after he gets home. He does not know how much longer he will be in the hospital but believes it will be no more than a week. Please continue  to remember Jim and Denise in your prayers.

Joseph N. Guidry - (6-18-10 - Nelson)  Matt Perales reports this morning that retiree Joseph Guidry was admitted to Spoan Hospital in Corpus Christi, Texas and was in critical condition.  We will update as more information becomes available.  Joe retired in 2004 and moved to the Rockport area recently.  Please pray for Joe and his family.

D.A. "Hoot" Gibson - 5-27-10 - Forrest  - Thanks so much for the phone call today.  It was very thoughtful that you even thought of me, since it has been nearly one year since I have been able to go to any of the HPROA meetings, due mainly that they are much to far to travel in my present condition.

In 2007 I was discovered with colon cancer, and had to have part of my colon removed.

In 2009, I had to have the remainder of my colon removed due to conditions of colitis which got much worse as the months passed.  I have had complications from that since then. Also it was discovered that I had kidney stones in one kidney, and they were removed during a minor surgery in Sept. 2009. Now is has been discovered that one of my kidneys is not functioning well, and I will be undergoing several tests to see just how bad the affected kidney is.  If worse than it is expected, I may have to have that kidney removed.  It is not known at this time if that will happen.  These tests are to be done in about four weeks from now.

At this time I am not able to travel very far from home at all.  Therefore I have not been able to make any of the meetings for quite a while.  Also not able to go much of  any-where either. Thanks again for the phone call to me today.  Please keep me in prayers.

Your friend always, D.A. Gibson
