Board Meeting Minutes

July 8, 2010

Call to Order:

President Steve Rayne called the meeting to order at 8:30 a.m. 

 

Present:

Ashby, Bashaw, Blair, Elkin, Gaines, Miller, Rayne, Rich,

Simmons, Turbeville, Walschburger, Zoch.

 

Absent:   Lankford, St.John

 

Sergeant at Arms:  Robert Crane

 

Parliamentarian:   Jack Harris

 

Determination of Quorum: 

Secretary Gaines advised there was a quorum present.

 

Prayer:  Ed Rich    Pledge of Allegiance:  Ed Rich

 

Minutes of Previous Meeting and Treasurer's Report: 

v Motion by Miller, 2nd by Ashby, to approve the minutes as printed.  Voice vote.  Motion carried.

 

President's Comments - Steve Rayne:

Ø J.C. Hairrell will attend the Business Meeting today with the results of the Psychological Aspects of Retiring Survey.

Ø 175 members attended the Crockett Reunion.  The Silent Auction raised approximately $1,135.

Ø Looking for committee members to attend an upcoming City Insurance meeting held by the City's Health Benefit Office.

 

Executive Director Report - Bill Elkin:

Ø Pension is @ $2.976 Billion.

Ø Donna Mitchell, of the Health Benefit Office, invited representatives from police, fire, municipal and retiree groups to attend one of three focus groups on Wednesday, July 14, 2010, scheduled for 9:00 a.m., 1:00 p.m., and 3:00 p.m.  A committee of 5 to 7 HPD retirees has been invited to participate.  Rayne, Elkin, Miller, Blair and Bashaw volunteered to be on the committee.

 

New Business:

Ø You can contribute to the HPD Assist the Officer Fund through the Kroger Neighbor to Neighbor Donation Program.  The HPROA website provides the information and letter containing the necessary barcode.  Present the letter with the Assist the Officer barcode to the cashier upon checkout to be enrolled for the current year.  Once the card is scanned with the barcode, it will be active for the remainder of the program year and must be renewed each annually.  Kroger will contribute a percentage of your eligible purchases to the Assist the Officer Fund.

Ø Discussion regarding the cost, format and return of the mail out ballots.  Discussion tabled until after the August election meeting.

Ø Ongoing problems with the Retired Badge layout.  Discussion regarding cost, control and available software.

 

Good and Welfare:

Ø One complaint received regarding old information on the HPROA Website.  Need more new information and articles from members.

Ø Rooms in Fredericksburg for the October Reunion are filling up fast.

 

Motion by Zoch, 2nd by Turbeville, to adjourn meeting at 9:15am
