173 ATTEND HPROA CROCKETT REUNION, JULY 26, 2010

The Houston Police Retired Officers Association saw an increase in attendance over last year at its annual Crockett Reunion. Retirees and spouses began arriving at the Crockett Civic Center around 9 a.m. Attendance with noon meal was complimentary for members, others were asked to pay $10 each.
I began by welcoming those in attendance to the 22nd reunion held in
Crockett; the birthplace of HPROA (1994). Reunions began in June 1988. The traditional "Pledge of Allegiance" was led by member
E. J. Smith. Following the pledge, Mr. Ansel Bradshaw, Crockett City Council Member, was introduced. Ansel is the son of Tom Bradshaw, also in attendance, who retired from HPD in the Photo Lab. Ansel welcomed everyone to the reunion while praising the work of HPROA.
Steve Rayne, President of HPROA, also welcomed everyone to the reunion. Steve and his wife Vickie hosted the reunion.
Bill Elkin, Executive Director, HPROA, spoke of the welfare of the organization and the Pension System. His remarks were well received. Bill is very knowledgeable having kept close contact with the City, State and Association for many years.
Items donated to the silent auction raised in excess of $1135.00. Vicki Rayne and Caren Harris are to be commended for working the auction. HPROA apparel was on display and for sale by Jane Thiel.
Invocation prior to the noon meal was by Bill Elkin. Food was served as planned at 12 Noon. The Bar-B-Q dinner was catered by Trigg's Catering Co.: Harvey Trigg, retired officer and HPROA member, owner.
After the dinner, cash door prizes were awarded to many in attendance. Table decorations were also awarded. Reunion ended at 2 p.m.
Our next reunion will be Saturday, October 23rd at Lady Bird Johnson Park in Fredericksburg, Texas.
